Danielle & Ben | Lancaster In-Home Lifestyle Session with In||Dust AirBnB

I asked, you answered. Now I’m delivering. Today, on Instagram, I asked my fabulous supporters and fans what they wanted to see on their feed tonight. To my surprise, you all wanted to see something that I don’t post all that often! You wanted to see a lifestyle session featuring a couple or individual. Let me tell you, I hardly get a chance to do these kinds of sessions. Most of my work is for couples who are recently engaged or are literally getting married the day of their “session” and I’m their wedding photographer. The session I’m posting is, quite frankly, out of my comfort zone. Comfort zone for me is a setting that’s surrounded by nature. My introverted self can just blend in to the surroundings as I work with a couple. This session? It’s indoors. The literal opposite of mother nature, enclosed within walls. My friends at In||Dust had recently finished their new AirBnB and set it up with a lovely bohemian, yet minimal style and asked if I could take some photos with a couple there. Knowing this would be pushing my comfort zone, I said yes because you never grow unless you go outside of your comfort zone! Danielle and Ben were kind enough to let me experiment an indoor session with them as my guinea pigs, and lucky for me, they’re two beautiful people with beautiful souls. So it made my job that much easier. At first I wasn’t astounded with the session, but looking back on these photos tonight, at the request of my supporters and fans, I actually really love the way the photos turned out. I think it’s so easy for us to be critical of ourselves in the moment. But when I put something aside for a few months, to look back on and reflect, I realize that I too often don’t give myself credit and grace for things that aren’t comfortable. After all, these photographs aren’t about me. They’re about the people that are in them, the feelings that two people have for one another - not the setting or for some bragging rights gain like getting featured in a blog or magazine. To echo something I mention in my “approach and values” section of my weddings tab on the website: meaningful and important photos aren’t always dramatic and beautiful; beautiful and dramatic photos aren’t always important and meaningful. Anyways, enough from me! Enjoy these select photos from the session that had me shaking in my boots!
